The Shindell disc I listened to a bunch of times in a row but never got into -- like you, I didn't find the songs as obviously grabbing as some of his previous work. Your review, at any rate, makes me want to give it some more spins and see how it's holding up in my memory.<br /><br />"Balloon Man" seems to be the track that has had the most staying power for me -- it comes easily to mind; the other ones take some more work.<br /><br />What I found interesting was how many of the Jack songs I already know from having heard him play them once, twice or maybe three times at the most -- I think that's quite a testament to his songwriting prowess: that those songs are sticking in my head (in large part because of their lyrical pointedness).<br /><br />I also love your calls with regard to the quality of production on "Porto Limon" and "The 111th Pennsylvane."
